Діапсиди - це група тетрапод, що виробили два отвори на кожній стороні їх черепів приблизно 300 мільйонів років тому під час пізнього кам'яновугільного періоду. Живі діапсиди надзвичайно різноманітні, і включають в себе всі крокодили, ящірки, змії, тутараси та птахи. Незважаючи на те, що деякі діапсиди втратили або одну діру, або обидві отвори, або мають череп із сильно відреставрованим складом, вони все ще класифікуються як діапсиди на основі їх походження.
