Діоклетіан був римським імператором з 284 до 305 років. Народившись у сім'ї з низьким статусом у римській провінції Далмація, Діоклетіан піднявся через ряди військових, щоб стати кавалерійським полководцем імператора Каруса. Після смерті Каруса та його сина Нумерая на поході в Персії Діоклетіан був проголошений імператором.
