Doublethink - це акт звичайних людей, одночасно приймаючи дві взаємно суперечливі переконання як правильні, часто в різних соціальних контекстах. Doublethink пов'язаний, але відрізняється від лицемірства та нейтралітету. Дещо зв'язаним, але майже протилежним є когнітивний диссонанс, де суперечливі переконання викликають конфлікти у власному розумі.
