Завантаження за умовчанням означає дві речі, кожна з яких стосується ненавмисного завантаження комп'ютерного програмного забезпечення з Інтернету: ▪ завантаження, які авторизовані особи, але не розуміючи наслідків. ▪ Будь-яке завантаження, яке відбувається без знання людини, часто - комп'ютерний вірус, шпигунське програмне забезпечення, шкідливе програмне забезпечення або злободенне програмне забезпечення. Завантаження за допомогою драйвера може трапитися під час відвідування веб-сайту, перегляду повідомлення електронної пошти або натискання на оманливе спливаюче вікно: натиснувши на вікно помилковою вірою, що, наприклад, звіт про помилку з робочого комп'ютера сама система визнається, або що звільняється беззахисний рекламний спливаюче вікно. У таких випадках "постачальник" може стверджувати, що користувач "погодився" на завантаження, хоча насправді користувач не знав про початок небажаної або шкідливої завантаження програмного забезпечення. Веб-сайти, які використовують вразливість Windows Metafile, можуть надати приклади такого роду завантажень для завантаження. Хакери використовують різні методи, щоб перехитрити шкідливий код, так що антивірусне програмне забезпечення не може його розпізнати. Код виконується в прихованих фреймах, і може бути невиявленим.
