У еволюційній екології екотип, який іноді називають екосистемою, описує генетично відмінне географічне різноманіття, популяцію чи расу в межах видів, що адаптуються до специфічних умов навколишнього середовища. Як правило, екотипи демонструють фенотипічні відмінності, обумовлені неоднорідністю навколишнього середовища та здатними взаємодіяти з іншими географічно суміжними екотипами, без втрати родючості чи сили.
