Економічне співтовариство держав Західної Африки
Економічне співтовариство західноафриканських держав є регіональною групою із п'ятнадцяти країн Західної Африки. Заснована 28 травня 1975 року, підписання Лагоського договору, його місія полягає у сприянні економічній інтеграції в регіоні. Будучи одним із стовпів Африканського економічного співтовариства, організація була створена з метою досягнення "колективної самодостатності" своїх держав-членів шляхом створення єдиного великого торгового блоку через економічний і торговельний союз. Він також служить миротворчим зброєю в регіоні. Організація офіційно працює в трьох рівноправних мовах - французькою, англійською та португальською. ЕКОВАС складається з двох інституцій для здійснення політики: Комісії ЕКОВАС та Банку з інвестицій та розвитку ЕКОВАС, раніше відома як Фонд співпраці, доки його не було перейменовано в 2001 році. Кілька членів організації прийшли і пішли протягом багатьох років. У 1976 році Кабо-Верде приєднався до ЕКОВАС, а в грудні 2000 року Мавританія відкликала свою позицію, заявивши про свій намір зробити це в грудні 1999 року.
