Ефори були лідерами древньої Спарти і розділяли владу зі спартанськими королями. Щорічно було обрано п'ять ефорів, які "присягали від імені міста", а царі клялися себе. smaller Dorian states. The name “ephor” meant “overseer” or perhaps “guardian.”
In Taras and Cyrene there were three ephors, each linked with a Dorian tribe.
