Снодійне захворювання - це інфекційна та іноді смертельна вірусна хвороба, яка зачіпає коноподібних тварин, у тому числі домашніх та диких поросят. Вірус викликає високу температуру протягом двох-трьох днів, а потім пухирі всередині рота і на ногах, які можуть розриватися і викликати кульгавість. Внутрішні і винні хижаки мають суттєві наслідки для тваринництва, оскільки вони дуже інфекційні та можуть поширюватися інфікованими тваринами через аерозолі, через контакт із забрудненим сільськогосподарським обладнанням, транспортними засобами, одягом або кормом та домашніми та дикими хижаками. Його стримування вимагає значних зусиль для вакцинації, суворого контролю, торговельних обмежень та карантинів, а іноді і вбивства тварин. Вразливі тварини включають велику рогату худобу, восьми буйволи, овець, козлів, свиней, антилопу, оленів та бізона. Також відомо, що заражає їжаків і слонів; лам і альпака можуть розвинути легкі симптоми, але вони стійкі до хвороби і не передають його іншим особам того ж виду.
