Giaour, Gawur або Ghiaour, написаний gâvur на сучасному турецькому, є образливим релігійним, а іноді і етнічним шлюбом, який мусульмани використовують в Туреччині та на Балканах, щоб описати всіх, хто не є мусульманами, з особливою увагою до близьких християнських популяцій, як греки, вірмени, болгари , Серби, етнічні македоняни, румуни та ассірійці. Цей термін вважається дуже образливим християнами на Балканах. 1911 р. Енциклопедія Британіка описує цей термін наступним чином: Гяур, це слово, яке турки використовують для опису всіх, хто не є мусульманами, з особливою увагою до християн.
