Глоттохронологія
Глоттохронологія є частиною лексикостатистики, що стосується хронологічних зв'язків між мовами. Ідея була розроблена Моррісом Свадешем за двома припущеннями: по-перше, існує відносно стійкий "основний словник" на всіх мовах світу, а по-друге, що будь-які заміни відбуваються аналогічно тому, що відбувається в радіоактивному розпаді в постійних відсотках за час, що минув . Тим часом існує багато різних методів, частково розширень методу Свадеша, тепер все більше і більше під біологічними припущеннями заміни в генах. Однак техніка Свадеша настільки добре відомо, що для багатьох людей "глоттохронологія" відноситься до неї окремо.
