Гумус
У грунтовій науці гумус належить до будь-якої органічної речовини, яка досягла точки стабільності, де вона більше не зламається і може, якщо умови не зміниться, залишатимуться так, як це було протягом століть, якщо не тисячоліть. Гумус значно впливає на об'ємну густину грунту і сприяє утриманню вологи та живильних речовин. У сільському господарстві гумус іноді також використовується для опису зрілого, або природного компосту, видобутого з лісу або іншого спонтанного джерела для використання для внесення змін у грунт.
