У грецькій міфології гіперборіанці (древні греки: Ὑπερβόρε (ι) οι, вимовлені латиницею: Hyperborei) були міфічними людьми, які жили "за межами Північного вітру". Греки вважали, що Борей, бог Північного вітру (одного з Анемоїв або "Вітрів"), жив у Фракії, і тому Гіперборея вказує на регіон, який лежить далеко на північ від Фракії. Ця земля мала бути ідеальною, коли сонце світить 24 години на добу, що до сучасних вухах говорить про можливе розташування в Полярному колі. Однак також можливо, що Гіперборея взагалі не мала реального фізичного місця, бо, за словами класичного грецького поета Піндара, ні кораблею, ні пішою не знайшлося б чудового шляху до зборів гіпербореїв. Піндар також описав потойбічне досконалість гіпербореїв: ніколи Музи відсутня у їхніх дорогах: лір зіткнення і флейти плачуть і скрізь дзвеніє хореї. Ні їх хвороба, ні гіркі старість не змішуються в їхній священній крові; далеко від праці та бою вони живуть.
