Гіперстен - це звичайний породоутворюючий ізолікатний мінерал, що належить до групи орторомбічних піроксенів. Багато згадок офіційно відмовилися від цього терміну, вважаючи за краще класифікувати цей мінерал як енстатит або ферросиліт. Вона виявлена в магматичних та деяких метаморфічних породах, а також у кам'яних та залізо-метеоритах.
