У комунікації та електронній техніці проміжна частота є частотою, до якої несуча частота зміщується як проміжний етап передачі або прийому. Проміжна частота створюється шляхом змішування сигналу несучої сигналу з локальним сигналом осцилятора у процесі, який називається гетеродинамічним, в результаті чого відбувається сигнал на частоті різниці або частоти. Проміжні частоти використовуються в супергетеродинних радіоприймачах, в яких вхідний сигнал переноситься на IF для ампліфікації до завершального виявлення.
