Проект Меркатора - це циліндрична проекція карти, представлена фламандським географом і картографом Жерардом Меркатором у 1569 році. Це стало стандартним проектуванням карт для морських цілей через його здатність представляти лінії постійного курсу, відомі як ромбові або лексодромні, як прямі сегменти які зберігають кути з меридіанами.
