Сучасне п'ятиборство - це олімпійський вид спорту, що включає в себе п'ять подій: фехтування, 200 м вільне плавання, стрибки стрільби та фінальна комбінована подія з пістолетних стрільби та 3200 м біг. Спорт є основним видом спорту Олімпійських ігор з 1912 року, а з 1949 року проводиться щорічний чемпіонат світу. Спочатку змагання відбулися протягом чотирьох або п'яти днів; однак у 1996 році було прийнято одноденний формат, спрямований на більшу аудиторію. Проте сучасна п'ятиборська організація, незважаючи на довгу олімпійську історію, повинна була виправдати своє включення в сучасні Олімпійські ігри часто. 11 лютого 2013 року в Лозанні МОК знову підтвердив сучасну п'ятиборство як одне з 25 основних видів спорту олімпійської програми до 2020 року. Керівний орган UIPM керує міжнародним спортом у більш ніж 90 країнах на всіх континентах світ.
