Оптативний настрій - це граматичний настрій, що вказує бажання чи надію. Він схожий на когортативний настрій і тісно пов'язаний із субординаційним настроєм. Англійська не має морфологічних оптативних, але існують різні конструкції з оптичним значенням. Один з них використовує модальний дієслово, наприклад, Може, ти довго живеш!
