Фотон
Фотон - це елементарна частинка, квант світла та всі інші форми електромагнітного випромінювання, а також сила носія для електромагнітної сили, навіть коли вона статична через віртуальні фотони. Наслідки цієї сили легко спостерігаються як на мікроскопічному, так і на макроскопічному рівні, оскільки фотон має нульову масу спокою; це дозволяє здійснювати взаємодію на великі відстані. Як і всі елементарні частинки, фотони в даний час краще пояснюються квантовою механікою і виявляють подвійність хвильових частинок, що виявляють властивості як хвиль, так і частинок. Наприклад, окремий фотон може бути заломлено об'єктивом або виявляти хвильове втручання з самим собою, але також виступає як частинка, яка дає певний результат при вимірюванні його положення. Зокрема, модель фотонів пояснювала частотну залежність енергії світла і пояснювала здатність речовини та випромінювання знаходитись у теперішньому рівновазі.
