Фізіологія - це рід Сифонофори, колонії з чотирьох спеціалізованих поліпів та медузоїдів, що дрейфують на поверхні Атлантики, Індійського та Тихого океанів. Наповнений газом сечовий міхур, який нагадує синю пляшку, забезпечує плавучість, а довгі щупальця отруйних кнідоцитів - це засіб захоплення здобичі. Вітрильник на поплавці, який може бути ліворуч або праворуч, просунув Фізаліа про море, часто в групах. Люди іноді стають напруженими на пляжах, де їх токсичні нематоцисти можуть залишатися сильними протягом тижнів або місяців у вологих умовах. Для виду Physalia utriculus дано загальну назву "Тихоокеанський чоловік", щоб відрізнити його від більш широко розповсюдженого та більшого Physalia physalis, португальського чоловіка "війни". Види розрізняються за розміром поплавця та наявністю одного проти декількох довгих риболовних щупалець. Жодних випадків загибелі від зародження не зафіксовано для P. utriculus, на відміну від великих видів. Род вперше був описаний Жан-Батіст Ламарк в 1801 році.
