Плінтус
У архітектурі плінтус являє собою основу або платформу, на якій лежить колона, п'єдестал, статуя, пам'ятник або споруда. Готфрид Семпер "Чотири елементи архітектури" стверджує, що плінтус, огородження, дах і стіна складають всю архітектурну теорію. Плінтус зазвичай лежить прямо на землі, або "стилобат". За словами Семпера, існує плінтес для переговорів між структурою та землею. Теорія Семпера була впливовою у розвитку архітектури. Багато будинків у сільській місцевості Бангладеш, що піддаються повені, будуються на плінтусах. Слово також використовується для основи шафи або аудіо поворотного столу.
