У банківській формі, пост-датована перевірка є чеком, написаним трасантом на дату в майбутньому. Чи можлива перевірка пост-дату, яку можна зарахувати чи депонувати раніше зазначеної дати, залежить від країни. Наприклад, канадський банк не повинен обробляти поштову чеку, і якщо вона помилково робить це, письменник може вимагати від свого банку виправлення помилки. Проте в Сполучених Штатах, перевірці письменників не повинні очікувати, що пост-датування перевірки буде виконано.
