Постструктуралізм - це етикетка, сформульована американськими вченими, для позначення гетерогенних творів ряду французьких та континентальних філософів середини 20-го століття та критичних теоретиків, які прийшли до міжнародної слави в 1960-х і 70-х роках. Основною темою постструктуралізму є нестабільність в науках про людину через складність самих людей та неможливість повністю втекти структур для їх вивчення. Постструктуралізм є реакцією на структуралізм. Структуралізм - інтелектуальний рух, що розвивається в Європі з початку до середини 20 ст. Вона стверджувала, що людська культура може бути зрозуміла за допомогою структури, модифікованої на мові, - що відрізняється від конкретної дійсності та від абстрактних ідей - "третього порядку", що посереднює між ними.
