У грецькій міфології Прометей - це титан в грецькій міфології, який обійшов сторону Зевса і висхідних богів олімпійських людей у великій космологічній боротьбі проти Кроноса та інших пануючих титанів. Тому Прометей був на підкорювальному боці катастрофічної війни грецьких міфологічних богів, названих "Титаномахією", де Зевс і боги олімпійських в кінцевому підсумку переміг Кронос та інших раніше пануючих титанів. Старовинні міфи та легенди стосуються принаймні чотирьох варіантів наративів, що описують Прометей, його подвиги з Зевсом та його вічне покарання, яке також нанесено Зевсом.
