Кріпацтво - це статус селян під феодалізмом, зокрема стосовно манориалізму. Це був стан кабали, який розвинувся насамперед під час Середньовіччя в Європі і тривав у деяких країнах до середини 19 століття. Кріпаки, що займали ділянку землі, повинні були працювати для Господа садиби, який володіє цією землею, і натомість мали право на захист, правосуддя та право експлуатувати певні родовища в садибі, щоб зберегти власне існування.
