Squire
Воїн був щитцем або зброєноподачальником лицаря, а часом у складі зброєносців входив бігун або слуга бігуна лицаря. Використання цього терміну змінилося з часом. У середньовіччі старшини стали слухачами лицаря, але пізніше лідер в англійському селі або лорд садиби можна було б назвати воїнством, а згодом і ключовими громадськими діячами, такими як справедливість миру або депутат парламенту. У сучасному американському застосуванні, сквайр є титулом, що надається правосуддям миру або подібним місцевим сановникам. Squire - це скорочена версія слова Esquire, від давньофранцузького еску'єра, сама походить від пізнього латинського scutarius, середньовічного чи староанглійського scutifer. Класичний латинський еквівалент був аргенгер, "носієм зброї".
Визначення squire у англійська словнику
Перше визначення квадрата в словнику є країна-джентльмен в Англії, тобто основний поміщик у сільській громаді. Інше визначення квадрата - юнак з шляхетного народження, який відвідував лицаря. Squire також є людиною, яка судила або супроводжувала жінку.
