Стелларатор
Стеларатор - це пристрій, який використовується для обмеження горячої плазми з магнітними полями для підтримки керованої реакції ядерного синтезу. Це один з найперших керованих пристроїв злиття, спочатку винайдений Ліманом Спітцером у 1950 році, і побудував наступного року, що пізніше став Лабораторією фізики плазми Прінстона. Назва називається можливість використання джерела живлення сонця, зоряного об'єкта. Стеллататори були популярними у 1950-х і 60-х, але набагато кращі результати конструкцій токамаків призвели до того, що вони спричинили падіння в 70-х роках. Зовсім недавно, у 1990-х роках проблеми з концепцією токамаку призвели до відновлення інтересу до дизайну стеллараторів, а також було створено низку нових пристроїв. Деякими важливими сучасними стеллараторними експериментами є Wendelstein 7-X, у Німеччині - геліко-симетричний експеримент в США та Великий спіральний пристрій в Японії.
