Підгрупа
У математиці, заданої групою G під бінарною операцією *, підмножина H з G називається підгрупою в G, якщо H також утворює групу під операцією *. Точніше, H є підгрупою групи G, якщо обмеження * на H × H є груповою операцією на H. Цей зазвичай представлений нотативно H ≤ G, читається як "H є підгрупа в G". Власна підгрупа групи G являє собою підгрупу H, яка є власне підмножиною групи G. Тривіальна підгрупа будь-якої групи - це підгрупа, що складається з простого елемента. Якщо H є підгрупою групи G, тоді G іноді називають надгруппою H. Ті ж самі визначення застосовуються більш загальним чином, коли G - довільна напівгрупа, але ця стаття буде мати справу лише з підгрупами груп. Групу G іноді позначають упорядкована пара, як правило, для підкреслення операції *, коли G несе багато алгебраїчних або інших структур. Ця стаття буде писати ab для a * b, як це звичайно.
