Субстеллярний об'єкт, іноді називають субстар, є астрономічним об'єктом, маса якого менша, ніж найменша маса, приблизно 0,08 маси сонячної енергії, при якій зірка може підтримувати злипання водню. Це визначення включає коричневих карликів, колишніх зірок, подібних до EF Eridani B, а також може включати в себе об'єкти планетарної маси, незалежно від їх механізму формування і незалежно від того, чи вони пов'язані з первинною зіркою чи ні.
