Третинний - це старий неофіційний, але все ще широко використовуваний термін для геологічного періоду від 66 до 2,58 мільйонів років тому, часовий проміжок, який лежить між витісненим середнім періодом та четвертим періодом. Третій курс більше не визнається Міжнародною комісією зі стратиграфії за формальною одиницею, її традиційний період розподіляється між періодами палеогену та неогену та першим етапом плейстоцену кайнозойської ери.
