Тралювання - це метод риболовлі, який передбачає витягування риболовної сітки через воду за одним чи кількома човнами. Мережа, яка використовується для тралювання, називається тралом. Човни, які використовуються для тралювання, називаються траулерами або трюфелями. Траулери різняться за розміром; від невеликих відкритих човнів з двигунами потужністю лише 30 к.с. до великих траулерів-фабрик з потужністю понад 10 000 к.с. Тралювання може проводитись одним траулером або двома траулерами, які ловлять рибу спільно. Трату можна протиставити троллінгу, де замість тралів прокладені кріплені рибальські лінії через воду.
