在天文学中,恒星分类是基于其光谱特征的星星分类。 通过将棱镜或衍射光栅分裂成具有散布吸收线的颜色的彩虹的光谱来分析来自星的光。 每行表示某种化学元素的离子,线强度表示该离子的丰度。 不同离子的相对丰度随着光球的温度而变化。 星的光谱类是一个总结电离状态的简短代码,给出了光球温度和密度的客观测量。 大多数星星目前都是按照Morgan-Keenan系统分类,使用字母O,B,A,F,G,K,M,L,T和Y,从最热到最酷的序列。 类型R和N是碳基星,S型是一氧化锆基星。 然后,每个字母类使用一个数字数字进行细分,0是最热的,9是最酷的。
