在真菌中，真菌分为三类：裂殖酵母菌，粘菌属和真菌菌类。真菌细分为四类：霉菌，子囊菌，担子菌和真菌不完全菌。 它们广泛分布于自然界，其中毛霉，曲霉，隐球菌，念珠菌，皮肤炎和组织胞浆菌是最常见的真菌。 白念珠菌有许多病例。 还有一种情况是看到放线菌，它们代表一种称为德鲁兹的黄色绿色或黑色沙粒。 진균류 식물분류 가운데서 균류 Fungi는 분열균 Schizomycetes, 점균류 Myxomycetes 및 진균류 Eumycetes의 3종으로 대별되고 진균류는 조균류 Phycomycetes, 자낭균류 Ascomycetes, 담자균류 Basidomycetes, 불완전균류 Fungi imperfecti의 4가지로 세분된다. 이러한 것은 모두 자연계에 널리 분포하고 이 가운데 사람의 진균증에 관계가 깊은 것으로는 조균류인 Mucor, 자낭균류인 Aspergillus, 분완전균류인 Cryptococcus, Candida, Dermatophitis, Histoplasma 등이 있다. Candida albicans의 경우가 많다. druse라고 일컬어지는 모래알 크기의 황록색 또는 흑색의 덩어리를 나타내는 방선균(放線菌)을 보게 되는 일도 있다.
