Pradă unor dureri îngrozitoare pe care, cu toată arta sa în ale lecuirii, nu le-a putut alina, Chiron s-a retras într-o peșteră, unde și-a așteptat sfîrșitul. Fiind nemuritor, nu și-a putut găsi însă liniștea decît după ce Prometheus, care era muritor, a primit să facă schimb cu el, dezlegîndu-l în felul acesta de nemurire.
