Actin
Actin ist ein globuläres multifunktionelles Protein, das Mikrofilamente bildet. Es findet sich in allen eukaryotischen Zellen, wo es in Konzentrationen von über 100 μM vorhanden sein kann. Die Masse eines Actinproteins beträgt etwa 42 kDa und es ist die monomere Untereinheit von zwei Arten von Filamenten in Zellen: Mikrofilamente, eine der drei Hauptkomponenten des Zytoskeletts und dünne Filamente, Teil des kontraktilen Apparates in Muskelzellen. Es kann entweder als ein freies Monomer mit der Bezeichnung G-Aktin oder als Teil eines linearen Polymer-Mikrofilaments namens F-Aktin vorliegen, die beide für so wichtige zelluläre Funktionen wie die Beweglichkeit und Kontraktion von Zellen während der Zellteilung wesentlich sind. Actin beteiligt sich an vielen wichtigen zellulären Prozessen, einschließlich Muskelkontraktion, Zellmotilität, Zellteilung und Zytokinese, Vesikel- und Organellenbewegung, Zell-Signalisierung und die Etablierung und Erhaltung von Zellübergängen und Zellform. Viele dieser Prozesse werden durch umfangreiche und intime Wechselwirkungen von Aktin mit Zellmembranen vermittelt. Bei Wirbeltieren wurden drei Hauptgruppen von Aktin-Isoformen, Alpha, Beta und Gamma identifiziert.
