Afghanistan i / æfɡænɨstæn /, offiziell die islamische Republik Afghanistan, ist ein Binnenland in Zentralasien und Südasien. Es hat eine Bevölkerung von rund 30 Millionen Menschen, die eine Fläche von etwa 652.000 km2 bewohnen. Afghanistan ist die 42. bevölkerungsreichste und die 41. größte Nation der Welt.
