Alliteration ist die Wiederholung der gleichen Töne oder der gleichen Klangarten am Anfang der Worte oder in gestressten Silben einer Phrase. Die Alliteration entwickelte sich weitgehend durch die Poesie, in der sie sich eher auf die Wiederholung eines Konsonanten in irgendwelchen Silben bezieht, die nach dem Gedicht des Gedichtes betont werden, wie in James Thomsons Vers "Kommen ..., der die faulen, langweiligen Linie entlang zieht". Ein anderes Beispiel ist, "Peter Piper holte einen Peck aus eingelegtem Pfeffer". Konsonanz ist eine andere "phonetische Vereinbarung", die der Alliteration entspricht. Es bezieht sich auf die Wiederholung von Konsonanten. Alliteration ist ein besonderer Fall der Konsonanz, wo der wiederholte Konsonantenklang an der betonten Silbe steht. Alliteration kann auch die Verwendung verschiedener Konsonanten mit ähnlichen Eigenschaften wie Alliteration z mit s, ebenso wie Tolkien in Sir Gawain und dem Green Knight, oder als angelsächsische Dichter alllgrat hart / frikativ g mit weichem g; Dies ist bekannt als Lizenz. Alliteration is the repetition of the same sounds or of the same kinds of sounds at the beginning of words or in stressed syllables of a phrase. Alliteration developed largely through poetry, in which it more narrowly refers to the repetition of a consonant in any syllables that, according to the poem's meter, are stressed, as in James Thomson's verse "Come…dragging the lazy languid Line along". Another example is, "Peter Piper Picked a Peck of Pickled Peppers". Consonance is another 'phonetic agreement' akin to alliteration. It refers to the repetition of consonant sounds. Alliteration is a special case of consonance where the repeated consonant sound is at the stressed syllable. Alliteration may also include the use of different consonants with similar properties such as alliterating z with s, as does Tolkien in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, or as Anglo-Saxon poets would alliterate hard/fricative g with soft g; this is known as license. There is one specialised form of alliteration called Symmetrical Alliteration. That is, alliteration containing parallelism.
