Peruanischen anchoveta
Die peruanische Anchoveta ist ein Fisch der Sardellenfamilie, Engraulidae. Anchoveta sind pelagische Fische im südöstlichen Pazifischen Ozean und werden regelmäßig an den Küsten von Peru und Chile gefangen. Sie leben bis zu 4 Jahre und erreichen 20 cm, wobei die Rekrutierung erst nach ca. 6 Monaten erfolgt, wenn sie bereits über 8 cm gewachsen sind. Es wurde vorher angenommen, dass Anchoveta meistens Phytoplankton, kleines Zooplankton und Larven aß. Allerdings hat die jüngste Arbeit gezeigt, dass Anchoveta die meisten ihrer Energie aus Zooplankton und Makrozooplankton bekommen. Euphausiide und große Copepoden sind die wichtigsten Nahrungskomponenten. Nach einer Zeitspanne in den späten 1960er Jahren wurde die Bevölkerung durch Überfischung und das El Niño-Ereignis von 1972 stark reduziert, als warmes Wasser über den kalten Humboldtstrom trieb und die Tiefe der Thermokline senkte. Nährstoffreiche Gewässer wurden dann nicht mehr aufgewachsen und die Phytoplankton-Produktion sank, so dass die Anchoveta mit einer abgereicherten Nahrungsquelle. Seit Mitte der 80er Jahre ist die peruanische Anchoveta wieder sehr reich geworden, wobei die derzeitigen Fangniveaus mit denen der 1960er Jahre vergleichbar sind.
