Apsis
In der Architektur ist die Apsis (griechisch ἀψίς (apsis), dann lateinisch absis: "Bogen, Gewölbe", manchmal geschrieben Apsis, mehrere Apside) ist eine halbkreisförmige Vertiefung mit einem halbkugelförmigen Gewölbe oder Halbkuppel, auch bekannt als Exedra. In der romanischen, byzantinischen und gotischen christlichen Abtei, der Kathedrale und der Kirchenarchitektur wird der Begriff auf eine halbkreisförmige oder polygonale Beendigung des Hauptgebäudes am liturgischen östlichen Ende (wo der Altar ist) unabhängig von der Form des Daches, Die flach, schräg, gewölbt oder halbkugelförmig sein können.
