Argon
Argon ist ein chemisches Element mit Symbol Ar und Atomnummer 18. Es ist in Gruppe 18 des Periodensystems und ist ein Edelgas. Argon ist das dritthäufigste Gas in der Erdatmosphäre bei 0,93% und macht es etwa 23,8 mal so reich wie das nächste häufigste atmosphärische Gas, Kohlendioxid und mehr als 500 Mal so reichlich wie das nächste häufigste Edelgas, Neon . Fast all dieses Argon ist radiogenes Argon-40, das aus dem Verfall von Kalium-40 in der Erdkruste stammt. Im Universum ist Argon-36 bei weitem das häufigste Argonisotop, wobei es sich um das bevorzugte Argonisotop handelt, das durch stellare Nukleosynthese in Supernovas produziert wird. Der Name "Argon" stammt aus dem griechischen Wort αργον, der neutralen singulären Form von αργος bedeutet "faul" oder "inaktiv", als Hinweis auf die Tatsache, dass das Element fast keine chemischen Reaktionen erfährt. Das komplette Oktett in der äußeren Atomschale macht Argon stabil und widerstandsfähig gegen Bindung mit anderen Elementen. Die Triple-Point-Temperatur von 83.8058 K ist ein definierter Fixpunkt in der Internationalen Temperaturskala von 1990. Argon wird industriell durch die fraktionierte Destillation von flüssiger Luft hergestellt.
