Aril
Eine Aril, auch Arillus genannt, ist eine spezialisierte Auswüchse aus dem Funiculus, der den Samen bedeckt oder anhängt. Der Begriff wird manchmal auf irgendeinen fleischigen Anhängsel des Samen in blühenden Pflanzen angewendet, wie die Keule des Muskatnuss-Samen. Die Aril ist oft eine essbare Verführung, die den Transport durch Tiere ermutigt und damit die Samenverbreitung unterstützt. Pseudarils sind arilartige Strukturen, die gewöhnlich auf den Pyrenen der Burseraceae-Arten gefunden werden, die sich aus der Mesokarp des Eierstocks entwickeln - der fleischige, genießbare Perikarp spaltet sich in zwei Hälften ordentlich, fällt dann weg oder wird gegessen, um einen bunten Pseudaril um den schwarzen Samen zu zeigen . Das aril kann eine fruchtähnliche Struktur schaffen. Falsche Früchte finden sich in zahlreichen Angiosperm Taxa. Das essbare Fleisch der Longan-, Lychee-, Ackee- und Lleuque-Früchte sind hoch entwickelte Armen, die den Samen umgeben, anstatt eine Perikarpschicht. Solche Armen finden sich auch in einigen Arten von Gymnospermen, vor allem die Eiben und verwandten Nadelbäumen. Anstelle des waldigen Kegels, der für die meisten Gymnospermen typisch ist, besteht die Fortpflanzungsstruktur der Eibe aus einem einzigen Samen, der von einer fleischigen, schalenartigen Bedeckung umgeben wird.
