Nach seiner Bekehrung zum Christentum und seiner Taufe im Jahre 387 entwickelte Augustinus seinen eigenen Ansatz zur Philosophie und Theologie und beherbergte eine Vielzahl von Methoden und Perspektiven. Da er glaubte, daß die Gnade Christi für die menschliche Freiheit unentbehrlich sei, half er, die Lehre von der Erbsünde zu formulieren und machte grundlegende Beiträge zur Entwicklung der gerechten Kriegstheorie.
