Autozephalie
Autozephalie ist der Status einer hierarchischen christlichen Kirche, deren Chefbischof nicht an einen höherrangigen Bischof berichtet. Wenn ein ökumenischer Rat oder ein hochrangiger Bischof, wie ein Patriarch oder ein anderer Primas, eine kirchliche Provinz von der Autorität dieses Bischofs freisetzt, während die neu unabhängige Kirche in voller Gemeinschaft mit der Hierarchie bleibt, zu der sie dann nicht mehr gehört, Rat oder primat gewährt autokephalie. Zum Beispiel wurde die zypriotisch-orthodoxe Kirche vom Canon VIII.
