Die Rote Armee-Fraktion war in ihren frühen Stadien, die allgemein als Baader-Meinhof-Gruppe bekannt war, eine westdeutsche Terrororganisation. Die RAF wurde 1970 von Andreas Baader, Gudrun Ensslin, Horst Mahler und Ulrike Meinhof gegründet. Es hielt verantwortlich für vierunddreißig Todesfälle, darunter viele sekundäre Ziele, wie Chauffeure und Leibwächter, und viele Verletzungen in seiner fast dreißig Jahre der Tätigkeit. Obwohl es besser bekannt war, führte die RAF weniger Angriffe als die Revolutionären Zellen, die für 296 Bombenangriffe, Brandstiftung und andere Angriffe zwischen 1973 und 1995 verantwortlich gemacht wurden.
