Bactria
Bactria ist der alte Name einer historischen Region südlich des Amu Darya und westlich von Gandhara. Die alte Baktria war im heutigen nördlichen Afghanistan, zwischen dem Hindu-Kush-Gebirge und dem Amu Darya. Einmal Zoroastrian, beherbergte diese Region den Buddhismus, bevor er nach der Ankunft der Rashidunen und Umayyaden im 7. Jahrhundert muslimisch wurde. Bactria wurde auch manchmal von den Griechen als Bactriana bezeichnet.
