Bornholm
Bornholm ist eine dänische Insel in der Ostsee, östlich von Dänemark, südlich von Schweden und nördlich von Polen. Die wichtigsten Industrien auf der Insel sind Fischerei, Kunst und Handwerk wie Glasherstellung und Töpferei mit lokal gearbeiteten Ton und Milchwirtschaft. Der Tourismus ist während des Sommers wichtig. Die Topographie der Insel besteht aus dramatischen Felsformationen im Norden, die in Richtung Kiefer und Laubwälder und Ackerland in der Mitte und Sandstrände im Süden abfallen. Die Gemeinde Bornholm deckt die gesamte Insel ab. Bornholm war eine der drei dänischen Gemeinden, die nicht zu einer Grafschaft gehörten - die anderen waren Kopenhagen und Frederiksberg. Am 1. Januar 2007 verlor die Gemeinde ihren kurzlebigen Landkreis und wurde Teil der Region Hovedstaden. Die kleinen Ertholmene Archipel befinden sich 18 km nordöstlich von Bornholm. Sie gehören weder einer Gemeinde noch einer Region an, sondern werden vom Verteidigungsministerium verwaltet. In der Ostsee gelegen, ist Bornholm seit Jahrhunderten kämpft. Es ist in der Regel von Dänemark, aber auch von Lübeck und Schweden beherrscht worden.
