BRIC
In der Ökonomie ist BRIC ein Gruppierungsakronym, das sich auf die Länder Brasiliens, Rußlands, Indiens und Chinas bezieht, die alle in einem ähnlichen Stadium der neu fortgeschrittenen wirtschaftlichen Entwicklung liegen. Es wird typischerweise als "die BRICs" oder "die BRIC-Länder" oder "die BRIC-Volkswirtschaften" oder alternativ als "Big Four" dargestellt. Ein verwandtes Akronym ist BRICS, das Südafrika umfasst. Das Akronym wurde von Jim O'Neill in einem 2001 erschienenen Papier mit dem Titel "Building Better Global Economic BRICs" geprägt. Das Akronym ist als Symbol für die scheinbare Verschiebung der Weltwirtschaftsmacht von den entwickelten G7-Volkswirtschaften in die Entwicklungsländer weit verbreitet. Projektionen über die zukünftige Macht der BRIC-Volkswirtschaften sind sehr unterschiedlich. Einige Quellen deuten darauf hin, dass sie die G7-Volkswirtschaften bis 2027 überholen könnten. Bescheidener hat Goldman Sachs argumentiert, dass die vier BRIC-Länder sich zwar rasch entwickeln, doch erst im Jahr 2050 konnten die kombinierten Volkswirtschaften die kombinierten Volkswirtschaften der aktuellsten Länder verfinstern der Welt.
