Oberleitung
In der Physik und Geometrie ist eine Oberleitung die Kurve, die eine idealisierte hängende Kette oder ein Kabel unter ihrem eigenen Gewicht annimmt, wenn sie nur an ihren Enden unterstützt wird. Die Kurve hat eine U-ähnliche Form, oberflächlich ähnlich im Aussehen zu einer Parabel, aber es ist keine Parabel: Es ist ein Diagramm des hyperbolischen Kosinus. Die Kurve erscheint bei der Gestaltung bestimmter Arten von Bögen und als Querschnitt des Catenoids - die Form, die von einem Seifenfilm angenommen wird, der durch zwei parallele kreisförmige Ringe begrenzt ist. Die Oberleitung wird auch "Alysoid", "Kette" genannt, oder, besonders in den Materialwissenschaften, "Seilbahn". Mathematisch ist die Oberleitungskurve der Graph der hyperbolischen Cosinusfunktion.
