Celesta
Das Celesta / sɨlɛstə / or celeste / sɨlɛst / ist ein geschlagenes Idiophon, das von einer Tastatur bedient wird. Es sieht ähnlich wie ein aufrechtes Klavier oder eine große Holzspielbox aus. Die Tasten verbinden sich mit Hämmern, die einen abgestuften Satz von Metallplatten schlagen, die über hölzerne Resonatoren aufgehängt sind. Vier- oder Fünf-Oktaven-Modelle haben meist ein Pedal, das den Klang aufnimmt oder dämpft. Die drei-Oktaven-Instrumente haben kein Pedal wegen ihres kleinen "Tisch-Top" -Designs. Eines der bekanntesten Werke, die die Celesta nutzt, ist Tschaikowskys "Tanz der Zuckerpflaume-Fee" vom Nussknacker. Der Klang der Celesta ähnelt dem des Glockenspiels, aber mit einem viel weicheren und subtileren Timbre. Diese Qualität gab dem Instrument seinen Namen, celeste bedeutet "himmlisch" auf Französisch. Das Celesta ist ein umsetzendes Instrument; Es hört sich eine Oktave höher als die geschriebene Tonhöhe. Sein Klangbereich gilt allgemein als C4 bis C8, wobei C4 = Mitte C. Das ursprüngliche französische Instrument hatte einen Fünf-Oktaven-Bereich, aber weil die niedrigste Oktave als etwas unbefriedigend angesehen wurde, wurde es von späteren Modellen weggelassen.
