Marc Zakharovich Chagall war ein belarussisch-russisch-französischer Künstler .: 21 Der Kunstkritiker Robert Hughes bezog sich auf Chagall als "den jüdischen Künstler des zwanzigsten Jahrhunderts". Jahrzehntelang wurde er auch als der jüdische Künstler der Welt angesehen. Mit dem Medium Glasmalerei produzierte er Fenster für die Kathedralen von Reims und Metz, Fenster für die UNO und die Jerusalem-Fenster in Israel. Er machte auch großformatige Gemälde, darunter einen Teil der Decke der Pariser Opéra. Vor dem Ersten Weltkrieg reiste er zwischen St. Petersburg, Paris und Berlin. Während dieser Zeit schuf er seine eigene Mischung und Stil der modernen Kunst auf der Grundlage seiner Idee der osteuropäischen jüdischen Volkskultur.
