Chiffonier
Ein Chiffonier ist ein Möbelstück, das von der Seitenwand durch seine kleinere Größe und durch das Gehäuse der ganzen Vorderseite durch Türen differenziert ist. Sein Name deutet darauf hin, dass es ursprünglich als ein Gefäß für Chancen und Enden gedacht war, die an keinem anderen Ort Platz hatten, aber es dient heute meist dem Zweck eines Sideboards. Es war eine der vielen merkwürdigen Entwicklungen des gemischten Geschmacks, zugleich cumbrous und bizarr, die während der Kaiserzeit in England in Möbeln herrschten. Die frühesten Chiffoniere stammen aus dieser Zeit; Sie sind gewöhnlich aus Palisander - das Lieblingsholz von diesem Moment; Ihre Möbel waren am häufigsten aus Messing, und es gab sehr oft ein angehobenes Regal mit einer durchbohrten Messinggalerie an der Rückseite. Die Türen waren gut verkleidet und oft mit Messing-Bördeln umrandet, während die Füße Pads oder Klauen waren, oder, in den wählerischen Beispielen, Sphinxe in vergoldeter Bronze.
